Ranu James
Ranu James is a distinguished Instructional Designer, Resource Writer, and cultural practitioner with over 30 years of experience in early childhood education, community engagement, and resource development across the Northern Territory, Victoria, and Queensland. A proud Papuan Australian woman with a Master of Education in International Studies, Ranu is renowned for her deep commitment to sharing cultural knowledge and fostering cultural awareness through education, music, storytelling, and the arts.
Throughout her career, Ranu has worked directly with educators, children, and families in diverse roles, including music and preschool teaching, service management, regulation, TAFE teaching, inclusion support, early childhood consultancy, and resource development. She has made significant contributions to the professional growth of early childhood educators, particularly in remote Aboriginal communities of the Northern Territory, and more recently in Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.
Ranu is highly regarded for her expertise in developing accessible and culturally relevant early childhood resources. She was a key contributor and designer for the Remote Indigenous Professional Development Package for the Early Years Learning Framework for Australia, a national resource supporting educators in remote and Indigenous settings. Her professional and creative writing skills are evident in her authorship of children’s storybooks and educational materials that champion cultural representation and inclusion.
As an artist and community weaver, Ranu also leads workshops on traditional Pacific weaving and bilas creation, nurturing cultural exchange and supporting Papua New Guinean women in Australia. Her international performances in traditional Pacific song and dance, along with her classical music background, further enrich her educational and cultural practice.
Deeply passionate about the right of all people to practice, develop, and maintain connections to culture, Ranu continues to mentor, teach, and inspire early childhood professionals. Her work empowers educators to integrate cultural perspectives and strengthen cultural proficiency within their environments and professional practices, leaving a lasting impact on early childhood education and community wellbeing.
